Addressing the issue of electric power shortages in rural Nepal can be achieved by utilizing elephant excrement from the Elephant Breeding Centre (a government-built facility for feeding elephants used by tourists) to generate biogas. Locals can also repurpose plastic bottles by combining them with a product called the 'CYLINDER-KIT' to create gas cylinders. This approach offers a more stable and sustainable energy source, helping to overcome the shortage of electricity.
Fighting poverty has become a lucrative industry, as highlighted in the documentary 'POVERTY, INC.' It prompts me to consider what kind of design can fundamentally help people living in poverty in Third-World projects. The answer that comes to mind is designing a 'fishing rod' for them and teaching them how to 'fish.' Clearly, this approach is superior to simply giving them 'fish.' By increasing production and leveraging local resources for the benefit of the community, we can establish a more stable and sustainable system that undeniably uplifts those in poverty.
